Third Grade

Core Knowledge--It's Knowledge to the Core!
Third graders will continue to study about the early Spanish explorers and the Native Americans.  The teachers attended a workshop involving Native American art.  We will be using many of those ideas in our classrooms.  We will practice making masks and other American Indian art such as Kachina dolls.  In our Core Knowledge language arts, we will be reading "The Wind in the Willows" and "The People Could Fly."  Sone of our favorite says are "His bark is worse than his bits", "A feather in your cap", and "Last Straw."  Our Math Investigations involve Unit 3 Collections and Travel Stories, Unit 2 Perimeter and Area, and Unit 5 Equal Groups.  The students are excited about learning their multiplication tables.  They are working very hard to complete 1-12 by the winter break.  We are going to have a feast in November for Thanksgiving.  This occasion promises to be enjoyable and a valuable learning experience for the children.  In addition, American Education Week will be coming up in November.  We will be preparing projects for the display at the Mall.
